The Pledge of Atonement
I am a citizen, for better or worse, of the United States of America:
One nation among others: No better, no worse –
Though we have committed great crimes
against the world and its people
and must now atone.

How sad, how appropriate. Well stated.
I like it too just that I agree with "no worse." Inherently sure but as far as our ability to commit war crimes and that we do we are worse.
Our Military Industrial Empire commits terrorism and war crimes against humanity daily. I have never been so unhappy with the United States of America. The rich are getting richer and the poor are dying for lack of health care and income. We are seeing these right wing fanatics trying to take away workers' rights while extending tax cuts to the richest Americans, who do not need them. Corporations are not paying any taxes and we spend less on public education than we do on incarceration and prisons. The real deficit in this country is a MORAL DEFICIT, and we need to do something about it like the Egyptians did.
As Martin Luter King Jr. put it, "A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on national defense (warfare)than it does on programs of social uplift, is approaching spiritual death." Guess what, folks? We are there!
Well said.
